How The Vault Guides Are Written

The Vault Guides are the counter talk of The Knife Vault, written down: pillar guides that cover a whole subject, and dossiers that each answer one narrow question completely. This page is the standing record of how that writing is done.
01 Who writes the guides
The guides are written by The Knife Vault editorial team — the same people who choose the pieces on the shelf. The byline on every guide names the team, and the claims in every guide are constrained by what we can physically check against stock.
02 How claims are sourced
Metallurgical claims follow published testing and standards — steel datasheets, Rockwell hardness standards, and the primary research we cite by name. Legal claims cite the statute itself, not a summary of a summary. Every dossier that makes checkable claims carries a Sources & Further Reading block listing the references used, linked at the original publisher.
Where practice outruns publication — detent feel, patina behaviour, sharpening rhythm — we say so plainly and write from bench experience rather than borrowing authority we do not have.
03 How product links work
Guides link to pieces we sell, and we make money when you buy them — that is the whole business model, stated here so it never has to be insinuated. The constraint runs the other way: a guide may only recommend from the shelf we actually stock and have handled, and the pricing arithmetic (source cost plus a fixed 30% margin) is the same whether you arrive from a guide or not.
04 Corrections
Steel data, statutes and prices all change. If you catch an error — a misquoted standard, a law that has moved, a number that no longer matches the shelf — write to orders@knifevault.ca with the page and the claim. Confirmed errors are corrected in the guide and the correction ships with the next site update.
